Praziquantel Injectable 
 
Uses:
Dogs:
Praziquantel is used for the removal of tapeworm. Products containing pyrantel pamoate and febantel also remove hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms.

Cats:
Praziquantel is used for the removal of tapeworm. Products containing pyrantel pamoate also remove various types of hookworms and roundworms.

Ferrets, Birds, Chinchillas, Mice, Rats, Hamsters, Gerbils, and Guinea Pigs:
Praziquantel is used for the removal of tapeworms.

Reptiles:
Praziquantel is used for the removal of tapeworms and flukes.
 
Dose and Administration:
Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian. The injectable form is given in the muscle (IM) or, subcutaneously (under the skin). If you miss a dose, give it as soon as your remember. IF it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once. This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.

Possible Side Effects:
If you observe any of the side effects below, contact your veterinarian. Oral form: Side effects are rare, but may include drooling, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, lethargy, or staggering. Injectable form in Dogs: Brief pain at the injection site, vomiting, and a brief period of incoordination have been observed. Injectable form in Cats: Swelling at the injection site, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, salivation, sleepiness, and temporary loss of appetite may be seen. If your pet has a large number of tapeworms, they may pass out with the feces. Usually, however, they are digested, and will not be seen. If your pet experiences an allergic reaction to the medication, signs may include facial swelling, hives, scratching, sudden onset of diarrhea, vomiting, shock, seizures, pale gums, cold limbs, or coma. If you observe any of these signs, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Precautions:
Not for use in animals who are hypersensitive (allergic) to it. Praziquantel is safe to use in pregnant animals. Do not use Drontal Plus® in pregnant animals since it contains febantel.

Dogs and Cats:
Unless authorized by your veterinarian, do not use in puppies less than 3 weeks of age or dogs weighing less than 2 pounds; or in kittens less than one month of age or weighing less than 1.5 pounds.

Birds:
The injectable form is toxic in finches. Consult with your veterinarian regarding physical examinations and laboratory testing necessary prior to and during treatment with praziquantel.
 
Human Precautions Some intestinal parasites may be zoonotic (able to infect humans). Consult your veterinarian or physician on how to prevent human infection and reinfection of your pet.

Drug, Food and Test Interactions:
Consult your veterinarian before using praziquantel with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, and other dewormers, since interactions may occur. Side effects may be more common if using the pyrantel pamoate combination products at the same time as organophosphates (found in flea and tick products) or diethylcarbamazine (once-a-day heartworm preventive) . Signs of Toxicity/Overdose May see salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, muscle tremors, or depression. If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any of these signs in your pet, contact your veterinarian immediately.
 
Storage:
Store at room temperature in a tight, light resistant, childproof container.
