Although these collars do fray, they are the safest collars that we have used in the 30 years of owning cats, especially for outdoor cats.

With grooming, play and scratching this collar frays like the dickens. Enough so that at the end of a week the 6 collars I had purchased for my cats had to be thrown away because claws, teeth and TONGUES were getting stuck in the collars so badly that the cats had to be rescued - screaming - from them. Even if they werent dangerous, they look terrible in no time at all. It is worth it to get the breakaway collars instead, they last and they keep looking good.
