Just want to say that I just got back from Kentucky where there is an abundance of ticks. I have 2 vizslas that I applied Avantix on and my sister also with a vizsla had applied Frontline we both applied it before the trip. The frontline dog got the most ticks. We did a tick check after every run in the field. We didn't wait around to see which product killed them -we just removed what was on their fur. Of course I am sticking to Avantix. I just wish it wasn't so expensive to protect 2 dogs.

my property is heavily wooded and wet, perfect breeding ground for ticks, mosqitoes and black flies.after using k9 adantix for my 2 german shepherds all last season,i can tell anyone not a single tick on either dog!!!and they romp and run through the woods.mosqitoes won"t even think about landing on them, let alone bite them.i used to have to spray themevery morning with a repellant and they would still get all bit up underneath on their bellies.its a great product and i"m on dog.com to order the seasons supply right now.and it doesn"t seem to bother the dogs at all when applied.

I think these flea and tick products effectiveness depends on your dog's chemistry and the area where you live. Plus, it's a little know trick to using these products, in that it is best if you wait 3 days after a bath in order to allow the oils in your pet's coat to accumulate and make the producf for effective. With that said. . . I live in California in Los Angeles County, which is a tick magnet. When I was using Frontline, I had to use a special flea&tick collar ($25) to see any benefits for my cocker. It worked fine for my Maltese for a while. Fed up, I switched to Advantix, and I never looked back. My Maltese and my Peekapoos are flea and tick free.

I've used Advantix on my greyhound/lab mix for 4 summers now, and have NEVER found a single tick on her nor has she ever picked up fleas... even after lots of running through woods and camping. This stuff works like a charm.

Doesn't Prevent Ticks!!!

I treated my Aussie 24 days ago and found two LARGE ticks feeding on her. I figured it must have worn out and needed reapplied. Today, I found two ticks on my border collie and he had his application 5 days ago!!! It works for fleas here in FL, but not for ticks... wish I didn't buy a year supply, I would give frontline plus a try.
