Gentle Leader Dog Headcollar

Millions of dog owners today enjoy the benefits of stress-free walks thanks to the Gentle Leader Headcollar. Designed so that owners can communicate with their pet in a way they instinctively understand, the Gentle Leader painlessly and effectively removes the dog’s natural tendency to pull by placing gentle pressure on calming points and eliminating uncomfortable pressure on the throat. In addition to reducing a dog’s desire to pull away, the Gentle Leader is also a very effective tool in combating lunging, jumping, excessive barking and helping to calm an aggressive and/or anxious animal.

·         Offers immediate, gentle control

·         Applies pressure at the back of the neck vs. the front of the throat

·         Allows dog to open its mouth to eat, drink, pant, fetch, and bark while wearing headcollar

·         Can be used with dogs eight weeks of age or older

·         Can be worn up to 18 hours a day

Rated 2 out of 5 by Dog hates it, fi These work well but even after hours and days of trying to get the dog to accept it she still hates this product and if it is not sized right it will cause the fur under the eyes to be worn off. I switched her to the harness this company makes and she still walks nice without the wearing away of her fur or fighting to be free of the product. August 18, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by If this doesn't work your are doing something wron I have trained dogs and horses for many years and for my dogs I was a avid fan of the choke chain. I never ever had a problem training a dog to heal on and off leash until I got a rescued 5 year old Weimaraner. I tried for over three months to get him to walk on a slack leash. I don't believe in letting a dog choke himself by constant pulling. Normally a voice que short tap works just fine because eventually all you need is the voice que. In frustration, decided to use the Gentle Lead as a last resort. The reason was that with a horse if you control the head the rest will follow. So the first thing I did was put the DVD aside and figured out how to put it on my dog because I am just sooo smart. It worked OK he was easier to control but the nose band would go sideways thus messing with his mouth and eyes. On a whim I decided to watch the DVD and discovered that I wasn’t smart at all and didn't put it on correctly. Once I did that the dog was almost perfect and after a week of leash training there is no pulling at all and he responds great with voice ques. Never forget some/most dogs think pulling is a game unless they are taught differently. Yes, the collar is thin but it doesn't have to be more than that because there is no problem with pulling once they get they understand what is expected of them and after all it is the owner’s responsibility to teach them. I will never use a choke chain again. Control the head and the rest will follow. BTW I didn't buy the Gentle Lead at but wish I did because it is cheaper here. June 5, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by You have to use it correctly The instructions say it must be tight, so tight that you barely slip one finger under it. Any looser and most of the problems noted in other reviews will happen. My girl got used to it and tolerated it well. I do think the straps are too narrow for larger dogs and that overall quality could be better. But, if your dog pulls incessantly, I think it is worth a try. April 6, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Fair product! I am a K-9 trainer & when leach training K-9's I used to only use this leader & it either worked or it didn't. It works great for some dogs but other dogs may fuss or try to pull it off. I always felt with some dogs if the strap that goes over the bridge of their nose was wider and possibly padded it might make it easier for some dogs to accept it. Once they accept it "it works super". Now this same company has a new model with improvements to the "strap that rides over the bridge of the nose it's made wider & padded" thus the new model works better on some K-9's that reject this original model. If a K-9 rejects this model rather than have them get frustrated and reject the leader all together" I put one of the newer models on and the difference "can be night & day" for some dogs. Its nice to have a choice with either the original model & the new one" so if this model doesn't work try this companies new model with the wider nose strap with padding on it. The new model is a bit more money but these "leaders really do work" Cheers April 4, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it I can't walk my rottie with anything else. She is even completely controllable when a squirrel runs by! And it's so much nicer than a prong choke collar September 8, 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by AWESOME My girlfriend and I have a shepherd mix who pulls a lot - nothing worked until we tried this. He pawed at his face when we first put it on, but after a little encouragement he got the hang of it - he's a completely different dog on the leash now. It's also very easy to put on and adjust even though the instructions it comes with are a little convoluted. If your dog can't get used to the gentle leader, try having her wear it around the house (with supervision of course.) Our dog was fine once he realized he could eat, drink, bark, etc. with it. Rated 5 out of 5 by Works like a charm I have a black lab. High energy who we have not been able to break from the PULLING habbit. He pulls no matter what! He will rip my arm off if he spots a squirl or rabbit on our walks, and made it impossible for my son to take him on his paper route for exercise. The moment this leash is put on, our black lab immedietly walks right next to us, will not run after squirls or rabbits. And I can literally walk him with the leash on my pinky finger!! Fantastic product. Doesn't restrict his ability to drink or pant or even eat... makes walking my dog an enjoyable experience now that hundreds of dollars at dog training classes hasn't been able to pruduce! Rated 5 out of 5 by NEVER GO BACK TO YOUR OLD COLLAR i have a lab an extreme puller. walks were hurtful and never fun. i used to have a harness, but she didnt mind it. we just bought this and miracles in minutes! she walked right buy my side the whole time on our walk but i have to say if you dont know anyone to help you fit it right on your dog, watch the video at least twice or watch it and follow it with your gentle leader and dog June 22, 2010

My lab is a big puller and drags me. While at a craft show this weekend, a lady had one of these collars and said that it works awesome! I've never seen them before, so I'm trying one for my dog and my daughter's dog.
